John R. Wrona focuses his practice on representing severely injured persons and their families in Chicago and the collar counties, and across the country. John established himself as a seasoned trial lawyer at a relatively young age and after beginning his career with other plaintiff’s firms from 1997-1999, started with the firm in 2000.
Based upon his tremendous record of success, John was made partner in the firm in 2005 and became a named partner in 2008. John has played the lead role in obtaining over $50 million of recoveries on behalf of clients in wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases, as well as on business, municipal, and commercial litigation cases, at Gardiner Koch Weisberg & Wrona.
John recently obtained a $5.42 million jury verdict in a wrongful death case. John was the lead trial lawyer in representing the family of a 55 year old woman who died due to medical negligence in the treatment of her cancer.
John was appointed Adjunct Professor of Law in Trial Advocacy at Northwestern University School of Law for the 2007-2017 academic years. John was selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and was again selected in 2017, chosen by peers to be one of the top lawyers in his practice area. John was chosen by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in 2016 and 2017. He is a 1997 graduate of the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, and 1991 graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He has been an invited lecturer at continuing legal education seminars on many occasions.

In 2017, settled a medical malpractice case involving the failure to timely diagnose and treat the breast cancer of a 47 year old woman, resulting in permanent disfigurement for $900,000. Settled a case involving pelvic fractures suffered by a college student pedestrian struck on campus by a distracted driver for $300,000.
In 2016, settled a trucking negligence case involving skull fractures suffered by a 45 year old man in South Carolina for $2,750,000. Settled a motorcycle crash case involving leg fractures in DuPage County for $1,250,000. Settled a pedestrian auto case involving fractured teeth and closed head injury in DuPage County for $180,000. Also, in 2016, settled a medical malpractice case involving the death of a 28 year old father from a treatable heart condition for $1,250,000 against a cardiologist and two hospitals.
In 2015, settled a wrongful death case involving a trucking negligence case involving the wrongful death of a 24 year old in Kane County for $450,000. Settled a construction negligence case involving fractures suffered in a scaffold collapse for $350,000. Also settled a case involving torn knee cartilage suffered in a grocery store fall for $200,000.
In 2014, settled a hospital and nursing home neglect case involving pressure ulcers suffered by a 62 year old arm fracture patient for $500,000. Also in 2014, settled a Kansas prison medical staff malpractice case involving a failure to diagnose and treat pulmonary emboli for $500,000. Settled a case involving a fatal ATV accident for $250,000, and a nursing home fall case for $250,000. Settled a nursing home neglect case involving beverage burns suffered by an elderly surgical rehab patient for $100,000, and settled an Arizona boat explosion case which resulted in severe burns for passengers of the boat.
In 2013, settled a case on behalf of a bike rider struck by a delivery driver for $1,020,000, a prostate cancer radiation burn medical malpractice case for $400,000, a rear end auto collision case involving a torn rotator cuff for $200,000, a head-on auto collision case involving a fractured sternum for $100,000, and a rear end auto collision case involving a lower back injury for $100,000.
In 2012, settled a motorcycle crash case for $750,000, settled a nursing home neglect case for $175,000, settled a fall case involving a hip fracture for $160,000, and an auto collision case for $100,000.
In 2011, obtained a $5.42 million jury verdict for the wrongful death of a 55 year old cancer patient due to an adverse reaction to a chemotherapy drug in a medical malpractice case.
Also in 2011, settled a construction negligence case involving a staircase collapse and multiple fractures for $300,000.
In 2010, successfully defended a municipality in the trial of a breach of contract case involving a large land development deal with Tom Gardiner.
Also in 2010, he successfully obtained reinstatement on an electoral ballot from a court for a city council candidate in a municipality.
In 2009, settled a production liability case involving burn injuries suffered by an electrician for $2,075,000 in cash and in addition to waiver of $455,000 of a workers compensation lien. Settled a medical malpractice case against a doctor for failing to diagnose and treat an aneurysm which ruptured and caused a brain injury, for $1,000,000.
Also in 2009, settled a premises liability case involving a fall in a restaurant parking lot resulting in a torn knee ligament for $375,000. Settled an employment discrimination case for $70,000.
In 2008, settled an automobile accident collision involving a bicyclist who suffered a fractured jaw and teeth for $300,000, and settled a trucking negligence case involving a collision between a semi and a car for $350,000.
Also in 2008, John served as Co-Executive Director of the Naperville Jaycees 2008 Last Fling Labor Day Festival, which raised over $200,000 for local charities.
In 2007, settled a medical malpractice case involving an untreated ankle fracture for $400,000 and a premises liability case involving a fall at a school which resulted in a fractured arm for $300,000.
Also in 2007, settled a battery case involving a fractured facial bone for $75,000. Settled a wrongful death medical malpractice case involving a failure to diagnose and timely treat colon cancer for $300,000.
In 2006, settled a hospital and nursing home neglect case involving pressure ulcers and infection in a 73 year old postoperative patient for $750,000. Also settled for $250,000 a case involving an improperly performed plastic surgery against a Chicago hospital.
Also in 2006, John was selected as a Member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, which is limited to trial lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional skill experience and excellence in advocacy by achieving a trial verdict, award or settlement in the amount of $1 million or more.
In 2005, settled a construction negligence case involving severe foot and ankle fractures suffered by an electrician due to a work site fall for $2,325,000, in cash, and in addition to the waiver of a $400,000 workers compensation lien. Obtained a $700,000 verdict against a Chicago hospital for a patient with severe osteoporosis whose fall precautions were not followed. Settled a wrongful death case involving the death of a home health worker in a house fire for $400,000.
In 2004, settled a product liability case where a steel worker suffered third degree burns over 40% of his body resulting from an industrial tractor explosion for $1,315,000. Settled an automobile collision case where a mechanic was broadsided by a drunk driver for $95,000. Successfully defended a business and its owners in an arbitration where the plaintiff sought $6,000,000.
In 2003, settled a stillbirth case that involved the failure to appreciate signs of fetal distress for $1,500,000, which at that time was a record recovery for a stillbirth in the State of Illinois. Settled a wrongful death case involving negligent pre- and postoperative care for a patient undergoing an amputation for $550,000 against a Chicago hospital. Settled a product liability case involving multiple fractures suffered by a steel worker as a result of a malfunctioning crane for $400,000. Successfully defended an entrepreneur against breach of contract and fraud allegations in a trial that took place several months.
In 2002, settled a civil rights case against the City of Chicago for excessive force during an arrest for $75,000.
In 2000, settled a medical malpractice case involving the failure to timely diagnose and treat a cardiac condition which led to leg amputations, against a major Chicago hospital, for $1,000,000. Settled an automobile collision case involving back and neck injuries for $72,500.

John has been a member of the Naperville Jaycees since 2002, served on its Board of Directors from 2005-2007, 2008-2009, and 2012-2013, served on the Executive Committee for its Last Fling Labor Day festival 2004-2007.
